The powerful magnitude-8.8 earthquake ripped through Chile very early on a Saturday morning, striking without warning and without regard for species. Even as people survivors were being pulled from the rubble, days after the quake a small puppy was rescued from a collapsed house in Constitución.

The death toll in Chile has surpassed 800 and is still expected to rise. Over 1.5 million Chileans are directly affected and more than 500,000 homes have suffered severe damage. All of this means that uncounted companion and other animals are now homeless and without a person to take care of them.
