Help Haitian Amputees - From $15
Help people who have lost limbs to the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
Emergency amputations have saved thousands in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake just outside Port-au-Prince. But without access to immediate medical care, many survivors' wounds became infected, and the infections threatened to spread to vital systems. Amputations saved their lives, but after sacrificing a limb, nothing will ever be quite the same.
Amputees have lifelong medical needs, particularly children, who outgrow their prostheses quickly. Sadly, the tragedy in Haiti means that thousands of survivors will need prostheses for years to come.
We have been partnered with Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (POF) for many years to help them deliver locally made, quality prosthetic devices to amputees in Vietnam, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Bangladesh. In its Haiti response, POF is applying over 20 years experience helping over 20,000 amputees in the developing world regain and retain mobility.
