Help Needed as Second Earthquake Strikes Nepal
Already deep in tragedy, the Himalayan nation of Nepal has been hit yet again by a massive earthquake. This time, it was rocked by a 7.3 magnitude quake that occurred on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. The epicenter was along the border of Tibet, where they were only in the very early stages of clean-up and recovery from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
With many structures already in a fragile state from the previous upheaval, the most recent quake has caused further collapses and destruction to buildings. More deaths and injuries are also being reported, as overall damage is still being assessed.
The country of Nepal, and the surrounding areas, need substantial support as they resume their relief efforts. Recent reports showed the death toll from the first earthquake was more than 8000 people and continued to rise. Additionally, over 16,000 people suffered from injuries. Hospitals and medical clinics have been completely overwhelmed since the initial shaking, and the latest quake has created more havoc for these over-burdened facilities.
