When Medical Pet GTGMs Come Full Circle…
When Nico, a Brindle Pit Terrier Mix, was taken to the QVC Animal Care Foundation he was severally dehydrated and covered in bite wounds. After a thorough examination, it was determined that he had been used as a bait dog. The extent of his injuries broke the hearts of shelter workers. It quickly became clear that his medical needs would exceed the funds available to the shelter. That’s when QVC Animal Care Foundation turned to us.
If you know anything about GreaterGood.org, you know that we have a heart for animals. That’s why in April of 2015 we launched an incredible program to help pets receive emergency medical attention. In December of 2015, we started a medical GTGM (Gifts That Give More) to help raise funds to treat Nico. His medical needs included a tail and leg amputation, wound care and treatment for infections.
This sweet like pup was nothing but grateful and shared gentle kisses with anyone he came across and never seemed to let everything he was going through get to him. Within a short time, we were able to raise the funds necessary to treat him. But Nico’s story doesn’t end there!
Two months after being with QVC, Nico was adopted by Joe. Sadly, Joe had recently lost his own pup to cancer and was devastated. That’s when he found Nico at QVC. They adore each other and have become close companions. Nico’s scars have healed and he looks like a completely new dog after gaining a healthy 20 pounds! Nico has found his forever home and couldn’t be happier!
