90 Kids Come Together to Help Shelter Animals!
Nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, along the Delaware River, you’ll find the town of Walton. Surrounded by beautiful rolling hills of forests, this modest community of around 5,500 is home to Townsend Elementary School.
During the holidays this past year, instead of buying gifts for each other the 2nd graders of Townsend Elementary decided to something a little different. In the spirit of giving, each student brought as much money as they could manage in order to donate to a worthy cause, together.
“We live in a rural, low income community. There are approximately 90 kids in four sections of second grade. So, this was the entire second grade at Townsend Elementary who contributed what they could afford.”
90 kids, from four 2nd grade classes came together to donate to our Signature Program, Rescue Bank, that works to provide high quality, name brand pet food to shelters and rescues all over the country. Operating on the national food bank model, GreaterGood.org accepts food donations from any manufacturer, distributor or retailer. Suppliers such as Pedigree, Nutro, Royal Canin, Purina, DelMonte, Wellness and PupChips notify us when product is available, and we distribute it to shelters and rescues.
“Rescue Bank seemed like the right fit since most students have pets that they love and adore. They, like their teachers, were glad to know that they were helping animals in need instead of buying a meaningless gift for a “boy or girl” in the classroom.” – Mrs. Carolyne Dutcher Townsend Elementary School
We are so honored to be the recipients of such a selfless and generous gift. At GreaterGood.org, we believe that even the smallest actions can drive change. Thank you to all the students who donated!
