Three years ago Chand Bee lost her eyesight, due to preventable causes such as untreated scratches or infections, Vitamin A deficiencies and genetic conditions. Because of you, Chand Bee and 10 other women were provided a corneal transplant and are now able to see their children, support their families, and send their children to school.

Not only was Chand Bee’s condition excruciating, but she was also no longer able to work in the field or support her children. “Because of my blindness,” says Chand Bee, “I could not look after my children.” Her little ones had to be sent to a hostel to live and be cared for while she awaited a corneal transplant.

Thanks to YOUR generosity, Chand Bee is no longer waiting in darkness! She was recently provided a corneal transplant for her sight to be restored and reunited with her children!

Millions like Chand Bee are waiting to have their sight restored. India has the world’s largest number of blind people. “Of the 37 million people across the globe who are blind, over 15 million are from India” (India Times). This region specifically, where Chand Bee resides, has a waitlist of 1,200 new corneal-blind patients per year.
