GreaterGood.org Awards over $540,000 in Grants to Ten Nonprofits

GreaterGood.org recently awarded over $540,000 in grants to 10 charitable partners: Veterans Village, Autism Speaks, Food Recovery Network, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Mae Tao Clinic, National Autism Association, The Fund for Animals, Veteran Homestead, Wings of Rescue, and the United States Military War Dog Association. These grants will support various projects that assist GreaterGood.org in meeting its mission to protect people, pets, and planet.

Among the projects funded:

Veterans Village of San Diego

Staff preparing meals for the veterans.

Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) serves homeless veterans in their residential transitional housing programs. The majority of these veterans have no income or access to food and shelter while struggling with substance use disorders and mental health illness. VVSD provides them shelter and access to nutritional meals to start their journey of recovery, access to services and benefits and reconnects them with the community. On average, they serve 350 homeless veterans annually. The GreaterGood.org grant will supply over 21,458 nutritious meals for veterans in need.

The Fund for Animals

The Fund for Animals operates three sanctuaries – Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch (TX), Fund for Animals Wildlife Center (CA), and Duchess Sanctuary (OR). In 2016 these three facilities provided sanctuary for 2,030 animals, representing a unique variety of species. The costs of specialty diets continue to increase for these sanctuaries. Aging horses may require soaked feed or alfalfa while healthy horses graze naturally and need only smaller supplies of supplemental feed. Bears need a unique mix of fruits and nuts that change with their age, and with the seasonal availability. Infants have different needs than adults, and all animals require variety as part of their enrichment. This GreaterGood.org grant will feed 124 sanctuary animals for an entire year.

Wings of Rescue

Wings of Rescue’s mission is to fly rescue animals in overpopulated shelters to a network of no-kill shelters from which they find loving homes almost immediately. Last year alone, Wings of Rescue transported nearly 10,000 pets to no-kill shelters. If not for Wings of Rescue, these animals would not have their second chance at life. The average length of stay in the new shelters for these pets was less than 3 1/2 days before they were adopted! GreaterGood.org’s grant to Wings of Rescue will support eight flights, saving over 1,180 shelter dogs and cats from euthanasia.

GreaterGood.org is honored to support these, and all of our charitable partners, doing amazing work to protect people, pets, and the planet.
