When you donate to help animals, you help real homeless pets like little Lucy. Lucy is a nine-week-old puppy, the same as your pet once was, but Lucy has been through way too much for her short time alive. She doesn’t know why bad things keep happening to her but knows she needs to be brave. She was found at four weeks old all alone and scared. The couple that found Lucy brought her to the emergency clinic where she was diagnosed with parasites and required a blood transfusion to survive.

Lucy received the transfusion and seemed to be on the road to recovery when she became severely ill, and they diagnosed her with parvo. She was fighting for her life. Next Lucy was having terrible issues with her front legs—carpal laxity which required surgery and ongoing treatment to help strengthen the muscles in her little legs. Sadly, animals with carpal laxity are often overlooked in the shelter and do not make it out. However, thanks to your donations, we were able to provide a grant to get Lucy the medical treatment she needed, getting her ready to be adopted into the perfect, loving family.

A Care Package for a Shelter Dog

We offer several sizes of care packages to choose. When you sponsor a care package, we will transport nutritious, high-quality dog food, beds, and vaccinations to shelters and rescue groups nationwide. Through proper vaccination, animals’ risk of disease is cut down or eliminated, leaving shelter volunteers more time to find good homes for these dogs. Animals that are healthy, happy, and well-fed stand a much better chance of being adopted.

Care for Retired Military & Police Dogs

Currently, when Military Working Dog’s retire in a non-combat zone overseas, they are considered “pets not vets” and are not always provided with a ride back to the United States, nor are they provided medical benefits. Contract Working Dogs face even more challenges. Many are left in kennels overseas for months before getting a much-needed ride home. Once they are back in the United States, they often require medical care before being adopted into loving homes or being reunited with the handler with whom they deployed. Many come home with serious cases of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and need time to decompress and rehabilitate before being placed in permanent homes.

Many Police Departments do not have retirement programs in place for their K9’s and often need assistance with placing dogs once they retire along with a need for continued care. Not all police departments have funding for protection gear like K9 ballistic vests, cooling vests, etc. that K9 officers may require in the line of duty. While many communities are able to donate funding needed to protect these officers, sadly many do not. GreaterGood.org is working with partners to assist when special veterinary care is needed as well as providing K9 officers with the protective gear needed to keep them safe in the field.

Gypsy

Provide Pet Food for Shelters

Gypsy was a mere 34 pounds when surrendered to the Protective Animal Welfare Society by an owner who said his house foreclosed, and he simply didn’t have time to take care of a dog. There were many signs of neglect. Gypsy was days away from dying of starvation. Her organs had begun to shut down.

Gypsy needed special care and nutritious food to bring her back to health. The pet food donated by GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank, and some love from her foster mom, literally saved her life. Gypsy now weighs 56 pounds and is beautiful and happy and loving her new forever home!

Just $9 provides 100 pounds of pet food to a shelter in need.
