Oakley Needs You After Being Hit by a Car

Poor Oakley was hit by a car and left on the road. A kind Samaritan brought him to a shelter, but because Oakley had no microchip or ID tag, he had to wait, untreated, in the shelter for a mandatory hold period of five days waiting for his owner to claim him. That never happened. Oakley was unable to walk and was in great pain. He was finally released to Lab Rescuers of San Diego and immediately taken to an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. X-rays confirmed a significant spinal fracture requiring extensive surgery. Surgeons also noted other injuries that could have collapsed his lungs, abdominal bruising and an injured scrotum.

It took four hours of surgery and three veterinary surgeons to repair Oakley’s spinal fracture and to perform a scrotal ablation. This loving, sweet boy faces a long rehab period under strict care, but once finally healed he will be ready for a family and a loving, forever home to take good care of him for the rest of his days.

You can help! Your donation will help cover Oakley’s surgery costs and aftercare. This way the shelter can continue to help animals in need and not wait a minute longer than the law requires. Click here to donate
