It’s #GivingTuesday 2018 – Here’s How YOU Can Help
Now in its seventh year, #GivingTuesday is the global day of giving back.
After Thanksgiving comes two of the largest shopping days of the year—Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And while these days might be great for getting good deals on presents, they can shift the focus of the season off of helping others.
Also called the National Day of Giving, #GivingTuesday is a reaction to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and aimed to create a space for people to dedicate an entire day to giving back through charitable donations and acts. The movement has been growing every year, and GreaterGood.org is proud to take part!
This year we are offering 5 unique ways to help, no matter what your or your loved one’s cause is. We are hosting 5 virtual drives—help us make this the biggest #GivingTuesday yet!
#GivingTuesday Pet Food Drive
Did you know the biggest consistent expense for shelters and rescue groups is feeding all of the animals in their care? And as we start to go deeper into winter, resources are becoming even more limited. Add to that the recent hurricanes and the California wildfires, and many shelter’s budgets are bending to the point of breaking. That’s why GreaterGood is hosting a food drive for animals! The money raised today will provide free, nutritious meals to shelters across the country.
Your gift will help bring high-quality pet food to shelters and rescue groups nationwide—providing nourishment to dogs, cats, and other rescue animals who need it most. The best part? Animals that are healthy, happy, and well-fed stand a much better chance of being adopted.
When you give just $2.00, you will provide 80 meals for animals in shelters. Last #GivingTuesday, you provided over 6.7 million meals to feed shelter animals in need—this year, let’s BEAT that number!
#GivingTuesday Home for the Holidays: Help Veterans and Pets Stay out of the Cold
In the U.S., more than half a million people are homeless—and nearly 15% are our nation’s veterans. Many of our veterans count on their pets as true companions. And while homeless shelters are a key resource for veterans who need food and a safe place to stay, most shelters in our country cannot accommodate animals.
This is why GreaterGood.org’s signature program Safe Haven is headed to Philadelphia, where not a single homeless shelter accepts pets. In partnership with the Student-Run Emergency Unit of Philadelphia, we’re building the first housing for homeless veterans that accommodate pets. This housing will be built from the ground up, and we need your help to reach our goal of $70,000 to make this project a reality
#GivingTuesday Help Girls in the Philippines Attend School
Ten girls live in Haven of Hope Orphanage in the Philippines, and they need your support to continue to attend school. Chronic underfunding and declining education standards have plagued public schools in the Philippines for several decades. For now, private school is the best option for girls to receive a quality education. Together, let’s make sure these girls graduate from school so they can break out of the cycle of poverty.
Together, we can support all ten girls at Haven of Hope Orphanage. Help us reach our goal of $6,000 to send all ten girls to school for a full year! Your donation helps provide the girls with a full school-year of tuition, a uniform, and all needed school supplies.
#GivingTuesday Help Feed 5,000 Hungry People
Nothing warms the soul like a good hearty meal. This holiday season, with food at the center of family gatherings and celebration, remember the nearly 800 million people around the globe with little or nothing to eat. In California alone, thousands of people have lost everything in disastrous wildfires. 13% of Americans—more than 41 million people—don’t know where their next meal is coming from. But we can help fill the gap.
Together, we can fight to end the cycle of poverty, food insecurity, and famine. At GreaterGood.org we’re committed to feeding the world’s most vulnerable populations. Your gift today will help feed people threatened by the destructive wildfires in California. You can help us send food to people displaced by the Camp Fire and the first-responders working to help them.
#GivingTuesday Acre Drive for Endangered Species
#GivingTuesday, the global day of giving back, is here! Join the movement by giving to our acre drive for endangered species. Let’s protect 1,000 acres in just one day!
Nearly 25% of all mammals analyzed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are threatened by extinction. The situation is even bleaker for fish, birds, insects, and plants. The number one factor contributing to this decline? Habitat loss.
The best way to protect endangered animals is by protecting their home. That’s why, this #GivingTuesday, we’re holding an acre drive to save habitat for endangered species. When you protect an acre of land, you help preserve the entire ecosystem—everything from plants and insects to large mammals like elephants and orangutans.
When you give just $10, you will protect an acre of land for endangered species like the black rhino, sumatran tiger, asian elephant, and the elusive jaguar. As human activities continue to destroy natural habitats, no time is better than today to partner with us on #GivingTuesday to save endangered species!
We are proud to be a part of the GreaterGood Community. Thank you for making this the best #GivingTuesday yet!
