7 Ways You Can Give Back This #GivingTuesday

Another year, another day of giving back. GivingTuesday is here, and we’re so excited to participate in the movement!

Created in 2012, GivingTuesday or National Day of Giving, began as a way to encourage people to do good in their communities. Since then, it’s grown into a global movement dedicated to celebrating generosity. In fact, last year we had our biggest GivingTuesday yet, raising enough funds for:

  • 12 million meals for shelter pets – more than twice our goal!
  • enough meals to feed 118,000 people,
  • and 3.5 full year scholarships for girls in the Philippines,

And we’re hoping you will help us make this year even better! We are offering seven unique ways to help, no matter what your or your loved one’s cause is:

GivingTuesday: Food Drive for Homeless Pets

One of the most signifigant expenses for shelters and rescue groups is feeding pets in their care. As the temperature drops this holiday season, shelters that are already overcrowded incur extra expenses, leading to a desperate demand for food. That’s why GreaterGood is hosting a food drive for shelter animals! The money raised today will provide free, nutritious meals to shelters across the country.

Your gift will provide high-quality pet food for shelters and rescue groups nationwide—providing nourishment to dogs, cats, and other rescue animals who need it most.

Just $25 provides 500 meals for shelter pets in need. Last #GivingTuesday, you helped us surpass our goal of 5 million meals and funded 12 million. This year our goal is 6 million!

Home for the Holidays: Help Vets and Pets Stay Out of the Cold

More than half a million Americans are homeless–and nearly 15% are our nation’s veterans who experience trouble transitioning back into civilian life. Many of these veterans rely on comfort or service animals, and while homeless shelters are a key resource for veterans who need food and a safe place to stay, most shelters in our country cannot accommodate animals.

That’s why this GivingTuesday, GreaterGood is hosting a Home For The Holidays drive to provide safe housing for our country’s heroes and their pets. Your donations will send our Rescue Rebuild program to LA Family Housing in February to remodel a brand new facility for homeless Americans and their pets, with beds reserved specifically for veterans. They fought for our safety, and now it’s time to fight for them.

GivingTuesday: Send Girls Around the World to School

More than 130 million girls worldwide don’t have access to education. Our Girls’ Voices program works in over 21 countries around the world to help girls develop new skills in digital media, storytelling, and creativity while providing scholarships to them. Unfortunately, without these scholarships, many girls would be unable to continue their studies.

That’s why this GivingTuesday, GreaterGood is hosting a scholarship drive to help a full classroom of girls, just like Sophie, get the education and training they deserve.

Just $300 provides a year of education for a Girls’ Voices scholar.

GivingTuesday: Help Feed 100,000 People

Nothing warms the soul like a good hearty meal. This holiday season, with food at the center of family gatherings and celebration, remember the nearly 800 million people around the globe with little or nothing to eat. In fact, more than 41 million Americans don’t know where they will find their next meal.

That’s why this GivingTuesday, we’re hosting a food drive to fight world hunger. Your gift makes a real difference for people around the globe and right here at home in their time of need.

GivingTuesday: Sponsor a Safe Childbirth

Despite worldwide efforts to reduce infant mortality rate, there is still much to be done to ensure safe childbirth. Even in a developed country like the United States, the infant mortality rate is approximately 6 out of every 1000 live births. It gets much worse in less developed countries like Thailand, where infant mortality rates spike to 1 in 100 live births.

That’s why this GivingTuesday, GreaterGood is working to provide essential services to facilitate safe births for expectant mothers in need, including regular free check-ups throughout the pregnancy, and care for mother and child after the birth.

Just one $45 gift sponsors one safe childbirth.

GivingTuesday: Help Protect Habitat for Endangered Species

We are running out of time to save endangered species and stop the destruction of our global ecosystems. Did you know that more than 1 million species are at risk of extinction due to climate change? In fact, according to the World Wildlife Foundation, 60% of all animal species have been wiped off the face of the earth since 1970 alone. The number one factor contributing to this decline? Habitat loss due to human consumption.

That’s why, this #GivingTuesday, we’re holding an acre drive to save habitat for endangered species. When you protect an acre of land, you help preserve the entire ecosystem—everything from plants and insects to large mammals like elephants and orangutans.

Help us reach our goal of $10,000 to preserve another 1,000 acres of vital habitat.

GivingTuesday: Provide Mammograms for Women in Need

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in less developed countries and the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S, constituting 1 in 4 of all cancers in women. Early detection and treatment are crucial–if the disease is caught early enough, the five-year survival rate is 96%. Mammograms are still the most effective early detection method available, but many women simply cannot afford the test.

That’s why this GivingTuesday, GreaterGood is hosting a mammography drive to provide free screenings. Your donations fully funded the only mammography machine in Sierra Leone, which has already helped close to 1,000 women receive mammograms, detecting 485 abnormalities, including stage 4 cancer. We urgently need your help to screen the 1,200 women still on the waiting list, saving more lives.
