Despite Injury, Lulu’s Living and Loving Life
She is a sweet, 7-year-old hound/pitbull/terrier mix who was rescued by the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, AZ after suffering an awful back injury.
Her owners could not provide care and instead, Lulu was left outside, without any food or water. The delay in care resulted in partial paralyzation for Lulu.
Due to her medical issues and mounting costs, local animal rescue, Tucson Cold Wet Noses stepped up to take over her care. Once there, Lulu had surgery to repair a ruptured disc mid-spine and received much-needed physical therapy, including underwater treadmill training, and some floor exercises. According to her foster mom, Chris, Lulu was on her way to normal until a lizard came in the picture.
“She has kind of a high prey drive, and so, she likes to chase the lizards out in the yard, and somehow she reinjured herself. And so these days she mostly scoots around, or she works in her cart.”
Considered a permanent foster, Lulu has been living with her foster mom and a few foster siblings for four years.
Despite all the setbacks, Lulu is still a lively pup and Chris says it wouldn’t be possible without GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank donations.
“If we didn’t have donations, [Tucson Cold Wet Noses] would not be able to take in dogs like Lulu, who’s had some medical expenses. It’s quite likely she would not have made it out of the shelter alive.”
Food donations help shelters and rescues save on their pet food costs and use their budgets for medical care, adoption drives, and enrichment programs for their pets. This results in happier pets and more forever families united at last.
In Lulu’s case, the food donations ensure the rescue focuses on her medical needs during her expected long-stay with her foster family.
Unfortunately, many pets around the country don’t get as lucky as Lulu. But you can help!
This GivingTuesday, GreaterGood.org is hosting a food drive for animals! Your gift will provide high-quality pet food to shelters and rescue groups nationwide, providing nourishment to rescue pets who need it most.
