On March 28th, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude Earthquake struck Myanmar, killing over 3,500 people and injuring over 5,000, and at least 160 are still missing. With three hospitals reportedly collapsed, medical workers are stretched beyond their limits, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
As OCHA reported, survivors are now battling extreme weather conditions. April is Myanmar’s hottest and driest month, with temperatures expected to reach 100°F (38°C) by midweek. Heavy rains and storms have already begun, especially in areas like Mandalay, hampering rescue efforts and exposing those without shelter to dangerous conditions.
Relief teams face growing challenges. Torrential rain and strong winds over the weekend forced rescuers to shut down search equipment temporarily. Despite this, brave volunteers continue their work, knowing every second matters.
