What is Courageous K9s?

Courageous K9s is a new program of GreaterGood.org committed to supporting dogs working to protect people and the planet. These brave dogs are trained specifically to help children, veterans, victims of violence, those with disabilities, and in cases of disaster; as well as protect habitat and save wildlife.

What does it take to be a Courageous K9?

Our pack of Courageous K9s are all different dogs with distinct missions which one thing in common — they are completely and selflessly dedicated to saving humanity and our precious planet.

These are mission-oriented dogs with stellar noses, boundless energy, and huge hearts. They are working for police chiefs and conservation charities; for veterans with PTSD and farmers who want to protect endangered species; for you and me and our beautiful planet. Our vetting process ensures each dog is getting the proper care and support they need and deserve. We also ensure that each individual K9 is making a measurable and unique impact in the field.

So go on and meet the whole pack!

Where We Work

Featured Courageous K9: Dodie

Meet Dodie, the Courageous K9 who works tirelessly to protect elephants and rhinos on the front lines of the war against ivory poachers. Dodie works in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo – an UNESCO World Heritage Site which has lost 90% of its wildlife population in just two decades to poachers.  She harnesses her superb sense of smell, energy, and dedication to detect ivory, rhino horn, and bushmeat, often hidden in suitcases and trucks. She is also able to detect much of the weaponry used by poachers, including wire snares, guns, gunpowder, and ammunition.
