Escalating violence in Haiti is threatening the safety of people across the country.
With coordinated attacks on airports, prisons, police stations, and government buildings, an estimated 15,000 people have fled their homes in Port-au-Prince for safety. All civilian flights have been canceled, and roadblocks are hindering the transportation of critical supplies like food and medication.
This is an urgent and rapidly developing humanitarian crisis. Over the weekend, the United States evacuated non-essential embassy personnel by helicopter and deployed additional Marines to enhance security at the embassy compound. The EU and Germany also evacuated diplomatic staff.
