Wildfires in Maui have claimed the lives of at least 96 people, forced thousands to evacuate, destroyed buildings and infrastructure, and overburdened animal shelters with the influx of shelter pets in need. The historic town of Lahaina has essentially been wiped off the map, with more than 80% of buildings completely destroyed.
That's why, on August 17th, Greater Good Charities is partnering with Southwest Airlines® and Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to fly emergency food and supplies into Maui to help communities impacted by these devastating wildfires – but that’s not all. On August 18th, once supplies are unloaded from the plane, we’ll rescue enough shelter cats and dogs to fill a Boeing 737 from overburdened animal shelters in Maui and fly them to Oregon shelters to receive essential care and treatment, and ultimately find loving homes.
These poor shelter pets desperately need your help to be flown to safety – and the people and shelter cats/dogs of Maui are in desperate need of essential supplies. Will you help these sweet shelter pets escape?
On August 18th, we're evacuating more than 100 shelter pets from Maui and sending them to shelters that have the capacity to care for them in Oregon. As more and more shelter cats/dogs are seeking shelter care to the wildfires, overwhelmed shelters in Maui NEED our help. Upon arrival at their new shelters, each shelter cat and dog will receive an exam and any veterinary care they may need to ensure they are healthy and unharmed.
You can help! Your gift today will go to Greater Good Charities' Disaster Response Fund to help fund emergency responses like this flight in and out of Maui. If you are able to contribute, please help shelter pets reach safety.
