In Verbivka, the Greater Good Charities team met Maria, a local teacher who was unable to leave during the invasion since her husband was seriously ill. She stayed throughout the occupation, living with the others who stayed in a constant state of fear.

Now, Maria and other Ukrainians face the threat of brutal winter, its dangers intensified given the destruction of infrastructure. While temperatures drop well below freezing, people in destroyed villages find themselves without electricity, fearful to walk around outside due to landmines and other explosive remnants.
