Help Now: wildfires raging in Brazil are putting jaguars' lives at risk
Wildfires rage in Brazil's Pantanal, scorching an area the size of New Jersey — over 3 million acres. The fires are spreading so quickly that wildlife, including threatened species such as jaguars, are perishing in the fires. Those who have managed to escape are suffering from intense burns and smoke inhalation.
Itapira was spotted lying motionless in a drainage pipe. Concerned about her wellbeing, a rescue team placed water nearby, but she didn’t move. After waiting a day without any sign of improvement, the decision was made to sedate her and perform a rescue. She had burns in all four paws, was severely dehydrated, and was too weak to survive on her own.
Greater Good Charities is partnering with teams on the ground to provide lifesaving medical care to jaguars like Itapira who are suffering severe burns and injuries. Rush support now to save their lives.
