Sonora, Mexico is home to the northernmost population of jaguars in the world. This genetically distinct group of about 80 jaguars is the last hope for the species’ reintroduction into the US. Unfortunately, jaguars are in conflict with local ranchers, who believe the jaguars prey on their cattle. Killing jaguars is illegal in the US and Mexico, but the crime is rarely prosecuted.
