In Thailand, too many students are held back by poverty, distance, and lack of opportunity. For refugee youth from Myanmar, the barriers are even greater.
Scholarship recipient Yee Mon Kyaw is just one student who understands the weight of those barriers—and the resilience to overcome them.
For her and her family, escaping the “nightmare” in Myanmar meant changing safe houses, fleeing soldiers, and finally crossing the Moei River into Thailand.
“I always look for ways to pursue further education,” she said, responding to the obstacles she’s faced while chasing her dream: “I wanted to become a businesswoman—to help my family, women, and my Muslim community.”
Today, Yee Mon Kyaw is actively pursuing that dream: a socially conscious and community-oriented businesswoman, she balances her studies while also co-founding a youth-led social enterprise.
