Heartworm disease is an epidemic in dogs across the South, and with animal shelters crowded and resources scarce, it can often be a death sentence.

But it doesn’t have to be. Greater Good Charities’ Save a Heart initiative, in partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, works to save as many lives as possible.

Lives like Henry's are saved because of this incredible work. Henry was rescued with a collar embedded in his neck that needed surgery to be removed. But now he is healing and is ready to take off on April 7th, along with 50 other pets, ready for brighter futures and loving homes.

We start by treating heartworm in asymptomatic dogs to stop the spread of disease. Then we transport them out of southern shelters to areas where they’re more likely to find loving homes.

This month, Save a Heart turns five, and we’re celebrating with a special flight of over 50 shelter pets from Louisiana to New Jersey!
