Empowering Shelters Through Greater Good Charities' Rescue Rebuild Initiative

Written by GGC | Sep 6 2024

Pet, wildlife, and domestic violence shelters’ resources are stretched thin, with volunteers and staff working overtime to provide support for the people and animals in their care. These organizations play a critical role in providing safety and care to those in need, often operating with limited resources and overwhelming demands. Recognizing the immense strain on these shelters, Greater Good Charities has taken significant steps to alleviate the burden through our Rescue Rebuild program.

Transforming Pet Shelters

Pet rescues across the country often struggle with outdated facilities that make it difficult to provide the level of care that each pet deserves. Rescue Rebuild steps in to renovate and improve these spaces, focusing on creating environments that are enriching for cats and dogs while also inviting to potential adopters. These renovations lead to happier, healthier pets and ultimately result in increased adoption rates.

Shelter environments can be difficult for cats and dogs, but with thoughtful design improvements that provide space to exercise and relax, these pets can show off the sweet personalities that make them more likely to be adopted. Rescue Rebuild’s work ensures that shelter pets have a loving, safe, and comfortable space as they wait for their forever home.

Revitalizing Wildlife Shelters

Wildlife shelters are essential in rehabilitating injured or displaced animals, often serving as the only sanctuary for miles and providing critical care to a wide range of species. These facilities face unique challenges due to the sheer volume of animals they care for throughout the year, and they are often underfunded.

Rescue Rebuild helps provide the necessary expertise and resources to upgrade these facilities, allowing them to redirect their funds towards the care of animals. By improving their infrastructure, we empower wildlife shelters to better fulfill their mission of giving diverse species a second chance at life in the wild.

Supporting Domestic Violence Shelters

A cornerstone of Rescue Rebuild is the recognition of the profound healing power of pets. In the United States, an estimated 10 million men and women are abused by their intimate partners each year. Sadly, 45-50% of victims delay or choose not to leave their abusive situation because they cannot take their pets with them.

For individuals and families escaping domestic violence, shelters can be the first step toward rebuilding their lives. However, many of these shelters lack the facilities to accommodate pets, forcing survivors to face the agonizing choice of leaving their beloved animals behind. Rescue Rebuild addresses this critical issue by constructing pet-friendly spaces within domestic violence shelters, ensuring that survivors can bring their pets with them as they seek safety and healing.

Build with You Initiative

Greater Good Charities' Rescue Rebuild program is more than just about renovation—it's about partnership and collaboration. Leveraging our extensive experience, we work closely with shelters to provide architectural drawings and full-scale renderings that they can use as powerful fundraising tools. When shelters are ready to begin renovations, we offer consultation services to assist with bids, project planning, and reconstruction efforts. This collaborative approach not only accelerates the renovation process but also strengthens the sense of community and shared purpose.

You Can Make a Difference

To date, Rescue Rebuild has provided 200 renovations, helped more than 510,000 pets, and has provided more than 335,000 nights of safety for families in crisis. These incredible achievements are made possible through the generosity of donors and volunteers. When you donate to Greater Good Charities, you are directly supporting these life-changing renovations, helping shelters provide better care for the people and animals that rely on them.
