New Embryo Development Is Beacon of Hope for Rhinos

We are thrilled to hear about the recent development of embryos to bring back the functionally extinct northern white rhinos! There is something to be said about the power of focused intention and motivation to solve a problem. This news is a beacon of hope for the global conservation community and the fate of the rhinos around the world.

Over the past 40 years, the rhino population has dropped over 95%. Every year, billions of dollars worth of rhino horn are traded on the black market, driven by a false belief that rhino horn has special healing properties. Now, all five rhino species are threatened with extinction.

Greater Good Charities, through Project Peril, has done some great work with our partners to ensure rhinos don’t go extinct.

Here are just a few ways your donations to Project Peril have impacted the rhino species:

• We partner with the International Rhino Foundation to give rhinos like Delilah a secure home away from predators and poachers.

• Our team works with Saving the Survivors (STS), a wildlife veterinary charity that provides veterinary services to wildlife across Africa, to provide medical treatment to rhinos like Goose.

• We provided critical funds to the Save the Rhino International Emergency Fund to help provide emergency veterinary care for critically endangered black rhinos like Mei Mei, Kitui, and Kati’s calf.

• We’ve planted more than 32,000 tree seedlings at Way Kambas National Park, home to Sumatran Rhinos, to support the reforestation of habitats that will support existing populations.
