Snow is falling, temperatures are dropping below freezing, and across war-torn Ukraine, people are facing a bitter winter without reliable electricity to keep them warm.
As they approach the 4th anniversary of the beginning of the war, the people of Ukraine are facing another threat: winter amid rolling blackouts. Temperatures in Kyiv are reaching 1 degree Fahrenheit, communities are experiencing power outages, and many internally displaced Ukrainians aren’t sure how they’ll survive the coldest months of the year.
In 2025, Russia increased its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, striking the power grid and generation plants. Power outages can last for days or weeks. At the same time, shelling has destroyed homes in Ukraine, shattering windows and leaving them without proper insulation.
Animal shelters are also operating with limited power as they struggle to care for animals from the frontlines. No power can mean no heat, no water access, and no ability to store food or provide medical care for injured pets.
With the help of your donations, Greater Good Charities is on the ground working with local organizations providing essential aid and winterizing damaged homes.
Our support this winter has included thousands of blankets, emergency food kits, and evacuation kits, along with transport crates for pet evacuations and emergency window support. We’re working to replace nearly 5,000 windows in Ukraine this winter.
We have also provided our partner Patron Pet Center with a generator, allowing them to continue shelter operations during power outages.
As conditions are expected to intensify, this support is crucial to the survival of Ukrainians and their animals.
You can help Ukraine by making a donation today. With each gift, you're helping provide essential winter items, evacuation support, and insulated windows for Ukrainian homes.
