Hope Through Every Pane: Rebuilding Lives One Window at a Time in Ukraine
In the frontline cities of Ukraine—like Kherson—daily life is a battle for survival. Russian artillery, drones, and rocket fire strike indiscriminately, destroying homes and hospitals, schools and streets. The physical damage is staggering, but so too is the emotional toll. Still, amid the chaos, hope persists.
Real Stories of Impact: War-Damaged Windows Leave Families Exposed to the Elements
“Maybe we should have left somewhere, but where would we go?”
— Maryna Yevhenivna
During the strike, Maryna and her children were home. Terrified, they hid in the corridor throughout the attack. After the strike was over, they were left with shattered windows with no protection from the elements.
Thanks to donor support, Greater Good Charities was able to fund critical work by Insulate Ukraine to rebuild windows across war-torn neighborhoods. For Maryna and her children, the difference is life-changing. Their temporary insulation has now lasted through months of very strong winds—and held strong.
"The situation in Ukraine continues to intensify. Today, we installed windows for Inna, a disabled woman surviving on just $50 a month."
— Insulate Ukraine Team Member
For Barkova Inna Volodymyrivna, the war took more than peace—it took the basic security of shelter. Disabled and living on a small state pension, she was trapped in a home exposed to the elements.
Now, thanks to the kindness of supporters, Inna's home is warm and protected once again—a vital lifeline in a city where every day is a fight for survival.
“It was strange how the hit happened. The windows in the apartment stayed intact, but all the balcony windows were blown out. The city didn’t help with balcony windows—your program was our only salvation.”
— Olga Yuriivna
When her balcony was destroyed in a blast, Olga Yuriivna and her family were left vulnerable to freezing winds. Living on the fourth floor, they had nowhere else to turn. Now, even the strongest gusts can't breach the new windows installed with donor support. For Olga, it’s not just about comfort—it’s about feeling safe in her own home again.
“Before your help, I was unable to fix my windows and the apartment was cold. Now, it’s a blessing—warm, and the light is on safely.”
— Danchenko Boris Maksimovich
When the war made basic repairs impossible, disabled and elderly Ukrainians faced devastating hardship.
Boris could not physically manage repairs on his own, and without insulation, his home quickly became dangerously cold. Thanks to support, his home is once again a refuge.
“We are a family of two elderly people, and we wouldn’t have managed on our own. Now the apartment is warm—and we don’t have to wear so many layers just to get through the day.”
— Valentine Vasylivna Pimakhova
For couples like Valentine and her husband, who thought they might not survive another winter without help, a simple window repair meant the difference between fear and peace.
One Window at a Time, Hope Is Being Restored
These are not isolated stories. They are part of a greater movement—one that your support makes possible. At Greater Good Charities, we believe in restoring more than buildings—we believe in restoring lives. That’s why we partnered with Insulate Ukraine, an organization working on the ground to help civilians return to and remain in their homes by replacing shattered windows and insulating damaged structures. Through our partnership with Insulate Ukraine, Greater Good Charities is helping hundreds of Ukrainians return to safe, warm homes.
In a landscape battered by war, every window repaired is an act of resilience. Every family able to stay in their home is a victory against fear and displacement.
Thank you for helping us rebuild hope—one window, one family, one life at a time.
