From Captivity to Safety: Adik’s Story
War doesn’t just impact people; it also takes a heavy toll on their pets.
Pets in war-torn areas face dangerous situations that have a lasting psychological impact and can lower their chances of being adopted if they are rescued.
Eight Months of Captivity
Adik was captured and held as a prisoner of war for eight months during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Perceived as a “trophy” of war, he was abused and severely injured.
Defenseless pets may not comprehend war or geopolitics, but they still suffer its consequences. All they know is that one day their home is gone. And, while Adik is now free, he suffers from significant physical and psychological trauma due to the harsh conditions he endured in captivity.
To help in his recovery, Adik needed a special wheelchair to regain an active life as best as possible. Thanks to the generosity of Greater Good Charities' supporters, Adik now has that wheelchair and is recovering from the emotional trauma in the arms of his owner, Irina. Together, they have an important mission. With newfound mobility, Adik and Irina attend rallies together, advocating for the release of their family members who remain in captivity.
the power of support and resilience
This story highlights Adik and Irina’s bravery and resilience and how crucial it is to support communities during challenging times.
