In the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, beekeepers are facing a dire crisis. Just days after Hurricane Helene’s devastation, Hurricane Milton made landfall, compounding the destruction to an estimated 95,000 hives—home to over 2 billion bees—across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and surrounding states. With much of their natural food sources wiped out, the surviving bees are now confronting a critical threat of starvation.

As both storms swept through, beekeepers in Florida worked urgently to move their hives to safety. However, the destruction of their last remaining forage has deepened the crisis for these vital pollinators. The loss of these essential bees will have serious repercussions, not only for our food systems but for the entire ecosystem.

Our Response and Commitment

In response to this urgent situation, Greater Good Charities, in partnership with Mann Lake, has been delivering emergency bee pollen substitute, syrup, and sugar to help sustain the bees during this critical time. Our collaborative efforts are aimed at ensuring that beekeepers have the necessary resources to keep their hives healthy and thriving.
