Field Update: Essential Aid Delivery to Communities Impacted by Greater LA Wildfires
As of January 13, the devastating Greater LA wildfires have burned through more than 40,000 acres, forced over 180,000 evacuations, and claimed at least 24 lives. These fires have destroyed over 12,000 homes, businesses, and landmarks, leaving communities in chaos. With four fires still raging and winds up to 75 mph forecasted, the Palisades Fire threatens to become the most destructive wildfire in U.S. history. Officials warn that displacements and fatalities will continue to rise as flames spread into new areas.
Good Packs: Delivering Emergency Aid to Those in Need
Greater Good Charities mobilized within hours of the first reports of the fires. With pre-staged emergency supplies already in Southern California, we launched a rapid response to deliver essential aid. Within 48 hours, our teams distributed hundreds of emergency packs, filled with first aid kits, hygiene products, blankets, flashlights, and 100,000 pet meals.
These life-saving emergency packs are reaching the most vulnerable in the Los Angeles area. Each pack provides critical items that help displaced families and individuals endure this disaster with dignity and hope.
The impact has been immediate and profound. At a local hotel housing evacuees, recipients expressed gratitude for the thoughtful supplies tailored to their urgent needs. Our commitment is clear: to provide not just aid, but also compassion, to communities facing unimaginable loss.
What We’re Doing Right Now
The Greater LA wildfires are a dynamic and ongoing crisis, and our response continues to evolve to meet growing needs:
-
Pet Food Distribution: We have delivered more than 3 million pet meals to ensure that pets, often a source of comfort during disasters, are not forgotten.
-
Animal Care: We are preparing to transport pets that were previously in shelters from overcrowded animal shelters to make room for displaced and injured animals. Our teams are also deploying pharmaceuticals and feed for traumatized animals, including horses who were evacuated, lost, or displaced due to the wildfires.
-
Wildlife Support: Disaster response experts are assessing wildlife impacts across burn zones, ready to intervene with resources and support.
-
Aid Distribution: We have established three warehouses across Southern California, allowing us to efficiently distribute food, emergency packs, and other supplies to communities in need.
