Global Discovery Expeditions: A Journey Through Mexico's Precious Ecosystem
Greater Good Charities recently sent our Global Discovery Expedition team to Rancho Los Nogales, located just outside Banámichi in Sonora, Mexico, to conduct crucial surveys and strengthen our growing biodiversity database.
Expedition Highlights in photos
Our diverse team of 22 participants included experts such as an ornithologist, herpetologist, myrmecologist botanist, photographers, and a lepidopterist. The team drove to Mexico and set up camp, with everyone sleeping and working out of tents. The team persevered despite the challenges posed by cold fronts that brought evening temperatures down to nearly 40 degrees.
The team installed field cameras that captured a variety of species, including sightings of a mountain lion, ringtail, and ocelot. Additionally, the team documented an array of biodiversity: over 74 bird species, 550 plant species, and numerous frogs, lizards, turtles, and snakes.
Support Future Expeditions
Planning and executing these expeditions is challenging. It involves extensive preparation, travel to remote locations (often on foot), and the use of advanced documentation technology. However, the research gathered is invaluable to preserving biodiversity worldwide.
Your donation today is not just a contribution. It is vital to support our ability to protect and preserve. The more we know, the more we can protect.
