How Your Help is Helping Ukraine
On June 6, 2023, the Nova Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine collapsed, resulting in widespread flooding across the area, impacting tens of thousands of people along the Dnieper River downstream from the dam.
Flooding of this magnitude causes extensive problems for residents for weeks, months, and even years to come. From the initial evacuation to search and rescue efforts, to establishing shelter and food and water donations, the needs escalate quickly.
In the case of this devastating event, Greater Good Charities (GGC) and partners are there, helping with these challenges and more. On the ground in Ukraine since the conflict began in 2022, we were able to mobilize assistance and supplies within 24 hours of the Nova Kakhovka Dam collapse and prepared to provide aid to Ukraine as needed.
Right now, that need is with the people and their pets who live in areas impacted by the Nova Kakhovka Dam breach and who are experiencing extreme hardship as they are navigating flood damage, temporary housing, lack of potable water, and much more.
We are working with animal welfare partners on the ground to help feed pets rescued from the flooding.
We are distributing Good Packs with survival and comfort supplies including food, water, blankets, and more to people in need.
We are installing water filtration tanks in affected villages to provide clean drinking water immediately and training residents to operate the tanks so they are self-reliant.
We are working hard to let the affected people know we are here for them and will continue to support them as the conflict in Ukraine continues and aid to Ukraine is needed.
Since the conflict began February 2022, GGC has forged relationships with local humanitarian organizations, suppliers, and more to be able to procure supplies for people in need. Partnering with local animal welfare organizations has enabled GGC to help with food and supplies for pets – those with their families, those in shelters, and those who live on the streets.
One key element to Greater Good Charities’ approach to disaster relief is preparation. Year round, we monitor need, collaborate with partners across the globe, and tap into our disaster fund and product storage locations to provide immediate relief in the form of cash and product grants. We work to anticipate needs in advance and the length of support needed and allocate resources to continue the work as long as we are able.
Why are we able to do this? Because of our donors. Recurring donations allow us to shift our focus quickly and mobilize in response to need.
Will you consider becoming a monthly donor to help us continue to respond quickly and provide aid to Ukraine as we did in this situation?
