This Veterans Day, Greater Good Charities honored our nation's heroes at the annual Chicago Stand Down event. Our Good Packs program helps people and pets experiencing homelessness all over the country, including homeless veterans. This incredible event provides vital resources like meals, medical services, haircuts, and employment assistance to local veterans struggling or at risk.
At the event, our Good Packs team distributed a Good Packs supplemental pack for veterans with therapy dogs. These Good Packs filled with supplies for the therapy pets of veterans, including a bed, blanket, wet dog food, food/water bowl, water bottle, bandana, toys, and treats for the therapy pet.
Therapy animals can provide immense love, support, and comfort for veterans experiencing homelessness. A loving bond with a pet can provide important support during difficult times; and this holds true for people experiencing extreme stress such as homelessness. These packs of supplies not only provide relief but also a message of love and hope.
“This really means a lot. And this will get him [my new therapy pet], you know, started. This is really nice. Wow. It shows, for me especially, the appreciation, you know, that there are people out there that appreciate us making the sacrifice. So, I mean, this is just like I say, I'm in awe and it's just a beautiful sight to see.”
