Greater Good Charities Receives $100K Grant from PetSmart Charities to Transport Pets for Adoption
Together, we are moving adoptable pets to shelters with more space to improve their chance of being adopted.
Some six million pets enter shelters in the United States each year.
Thanks to improved coordination between animal shelters across the nation, transporting homeless pets from overcrowded shelters in under-resourced areas of the country, to relocate their animals to other shelters, most often in the North, where those animals have a better chance of being adopted into loving families.
Greater Good Charities recently received a $100,000 grant from PetSmart Charities® to support its pet transport program. This funding not only aims to reduce overcrowding at source shelters but helps to strengthen programs that will have longer-term impact on animal welfare in the surrounding communities.

PetSmart Charities, the top funder of animal welfare in the United States, and Greater Good Charities know collaborations such as these will improve outcomes for animals in overpopulated shelters.
“We are grateful to receive this generous grant from PetSmart Charities that will support our efforts to conduct life-saving transports for at-risk and vulnerable pet populations,” said Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities. “To date, Greater Good Charities has transported more than 13,000 shelter pets to new homes, and we look forward to helping more homeless pets in need.”
“As many communities grapple with animals staying longer in shelters and work to build out long term solutions, partnerships with regions who have capacity to bring in animals is paramount to our collective lifesaving efforts,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement initiatives at PetSmart Charities. “We’re proud to support Greater Good Charities and their work to ensure adoptable pets find their families as quickly as possible.”
