You Can Foster Pets and Save Lives
There is an unprecedented animal sheltering crisis in the United States.
Animal shelters are reporting overpopulation not seen in as much as a decade due to an increase in pet surrenders and a slowdown in adoptions. Shelters are facing staffing and veterinarian shortages, limiting their ability to care for pets, including critical spay/neuter services.
Many families are facing economic hardships that have led to increased pet owner surrenders to animal shelters. Natural disasters have only made the crisis worse.
As a result, countless pets are at risk, with many animal shelters that have not euthanized due to space limitations. They are in desperate need of support for the pets in their care.
Fostering pets until they can find their forever home solves this crisis.
Meet Elvira

Momma Elvira's story began after she was abandoned at a rural campground.
There, she wandered for two years, seeking food and love from campsite to campsite. After an elderly woman who had been feeding her passed away, Elvira faced another year alone and afraid. This past winter, pregnant and days away from giving birth, Elvira took a chance at one more campsite.
Thankfully, a vet tech who worked with a rescue organization was camping there. With a few phone calls, the vet tech secured Elvira a warm bed in a foster home just in time. A few days later, Elvira went into labor with her foster mom by her side. That night, an ice storm swept through the state, but thankfully, Elvira and her new pups were safe.

Elvira has flourished in her foster home, where she can relax.
At the same time, her pups play safely indoors and sunbathe outside without fear. She has made friends with the resident dogs and adores her human family. Her puppies are healthy, happy, and ready for their fosters.
Despite the costs of feeding Elvira and her hungry pups, generous donations from Greater Good Charities' GOODS Program allowed her shelter to provide medical care and other essential needs.
Elvira's journey from stray to a beloved foster pet highlights the life-saving impact of foster homes and community support.
