Recently, we interviewed Dean Tansman, Vice President of Operations for our partner Dutch Harbor Brands, a family-owned company founded in 1991.

What makes Dutch Harbor Brands unique?

Dutch Harbor Brands, a division of Unico International Trading Corp., specializes in innovative wet wipes for personal care and commercial use across diverse industries. Since 1991 we’ve emphasized safety and sustainability, prioritizing natural formulations and renewable materials whenever possible. This has led to the widespread adoption of our brands, including Wipex. We stand out by providing full-label transparency on all products, believing consumers have the right to know exactly what they're using.

Our partnership with Greater Good Charities extends our impact beyond our customer base. Through this collaboration, we've provided product donations for various causes across the East Coast and beyond, supporting disaster relief efforts, unhoused veterans, shelters, and food kitchens. This partnership demonstrates that business success and social responsibility can go hand in hand.

What inspired you about the work of Greater Good Charities?

We believe there can be no distinction between how we conduct ourselves in business and our personal lives. This philosophy drives our commitment to giving back to our community as an integral part of our business model. 

We're particularly moved by Greater Good Charities’ focus on helping those in need within the USA, from families and veterans to animals. Their ability to effectively channel donations to the right recipients sets them apart as a force for good. We see them as the perfect partner due to their dependable team, an extensive network of reputable charities, and a diverse range of projects.

We're honored to support the causes GGC champions, particularly their efforts to assist vulnerable people and animals. What truly inspires us is knowing that our products, which promote cleanliness and health, can reach those who need them most, regardless of their ability to pay.

Describe what doing good means to you

Doing good is about paying it forward – using our blessings and opportunities to uplift others. This philosophy extends beyond simple acts of kindness to create a ripple effect of positive change in our communities and the world at large.

We believe that doing good means being conscious of our interconnectedness and recognizing that when we lift others, we all rise together. It's about both grand gestures and small, everyday actions that contribute to a more compassionate world, including treating others with kindness and being mindful of our impact on others.

In essence, doing good is our way of acknowledging the humanity in others and ourselves, expressing gratitude for what we have, and investing in a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

How does your organization help Amplify the Good?

We Amplify the Good by operating with a strong sense of morality and civic responsibility. A prime example is our commitment to providing jobs in the USA and Israel, even when industry trends favor outsourcing to cheaper locales. This decision preserves local jobs and has led to our company's growth and valuable relationships with like-minded businesses.

We believe that a clear, mission-driven approach is the most powerful motivator. By staying true to our values, we've been able to thrive while making a positive impact on our communities and partners. This alignment of business success with social responsibility allows us to continually amplify the good we do.

What was your favorite moment working with Greater Good Charities?

A particularly memorable highlight was our involvement in last year's Veteran's Day matching campaign, which saw record-breaking fundraising totals, demonstrating the collective power of human generosity.

What truly makes our work with GGC worthwhile are the stories and images we receive of people benefiting from our products. Seeing firsthand the positive impact our contributions have on individuals' lives - whether it's providing hygiene essentials to disaster survivors or supporting homeless veterans - is profoundly gratifying and continually inspires our commitment to giving back.

If you had a few words to encourage someone to make a positive difference in the world, what would they be?
