Hurricane Beryl Barreling into Texas

After devastating the Caribbean and strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico, Hurricane Beryl has made landfall in Texas. This marks the first storm of the 2024 season and directly impacts Galveston and Houston—a region where millions of people live and will likely be without power.

While hurricanes can always change direction, a state of emergency was declared for over 80 Texas counties.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Beryl is expected to unleash heavy coastal storm surges, violent winds, and urban flooding in Texas cities from Corpus Christi to Houston—a 210-mile stretch of coastline. The flood-prone areas of southwest Louisiana are also bracing for the storm's effects. The potential impact is significant.

As with any natural disaster, Greater Good Charities is in contact with local partners and shelters to assess needs and deliver essential supplies for people and pets. Our Disaster Relief team quickly mobilized to send emergency aid to families and pets in need and is now on the ground in Houston.
