As part of our global initiative to bring help wherever needed, Greater Good Charities has been working with our on-the-ground partner TAC.social in Romania to distribute pet food to owned and community pets in need. During one outreach event in Pata Rât, on the outskirts of Cluj, our partners met Robert, his father, and their seven dogs.
Meet Robert and His Dogs
Robert and his father live in a small, makeshift shelter that barely keeps out the wind. Though they have very little, they share whatever they can with their seven dogs. The dogs, a mother and six pups, bring joy and warmth to their lives that far outweighs the cost of keeping them.
When TAC.social first visited Robert’s settlement, they offered to neuter the mother dog and vaccinate the pups, ensuring they’d stay healthy and safe. This lifted a heavy burden off Robert’s father, but he still worried about feeding the dogs. Each day, he and Robert would search for scraps or leftovers to keep their pups fed. But it was never enough.
Then one morning, a volunteer from TAC.social arrived with bags of dog food donated by Greater Good Charities. Robert’s eyes went wide with disbelief – he’d never seen so much pet food in one place! Together, he and his father filled the dogs’ bowls and watched as they ate their first full meal in a long time.
That day, as the puppies played with full bellies, Robert and his father shared how relieved and grateful they felt for the kindness that saved their dogs.
