Providing Aid for Families and Pets Experiencing Homelessness
The homeless crisis in the United States has reached unprecedented levels, with more than 650,000 people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January 2023. This marks a staggering 12.1% increase from the previous year. Rising housing costs and a lack of available housing have driven more individuals and families into homelessness for the first time.
The harsh realities of cold weather and the increasing frequency of natural disasters put these individuals and families in life-threatening situations. Greater Good Charities is dedicated to providing aid to those experiencing homelessness and crises—and you can play a vital role in supporting these vulnerable communities.
Shelter Renovations
Many shelters in the United States do not accommodate pets, leaving domestic violence survivors, veterans, and other unhoused individuals and families to make the heartbreaking choice between seeking shelter or staying with their beloved pets or support animals. Studies have shown that pets provide crucial emotional support and companionship, aiding trauma and abuse survivors in their healing processes.
Greater Good Charities is actively renovating shelters nationwide to accommodate individuals with pets, improving lives for both people and animals. With the help of volunteers across the country, we’ve transformed domestic violence shelters, homeless facilities, veterans’ housing, and more. To date, our efforts have provided over 350,000 nights of safety for families in crisis.
Providing Hygiene Kits and Essentials
In times of crisis and homelessness, meeting basic hygiene needs can restore a sense of normalcy. Greater Good Charities distributes essential aid kits containing items like blankets, socks, food, and pet care supplies. These kits are customizable to address specific locations, seasons, or disasters, ensuring that vulnerable communities receive the resources they need to stay safe, clean, and warm.
